Eleven days and the year draws to a close. Full circle? Do we ever come full circle—365 days, 360º?
What does that mean, full circle?
Even seasons struggle to close a tidy circle because, in their cycle, things outside their control intervene. Things that happen in the winter change how spring comes in. The water and weight of one season might warp the line of the circle as it draws near the equinox or solstice.
I’m not sure I’d ever want to come full circle, to close it.
That would be a denial of the journey, the changes that journey provoked or required.
Closing a circle might seem tidy and neat, but it would be artificial.
Where are the perfect circles anyway? On draft boards? In AI generators?
I’m changed. So, as I come back round to the end of a year, I arrive with story, with a shift that warps my circle, makes my circle—our circle together—imperfect but better.
There is beauty in that. There are lovely misconfigurations, new shapes, a different shadow cast.
As we celebrate what this year has been, let us honor our differences, our difference, and the journey that brought us round.
