I’m writing a series of novels: the Seeking Scylla series. Some characters dance on the edges of the narratives. Some never make it in. In Beyond Scylla blogs, I share stories and vignettes about these characters.

—Stop calling me.

—Why are you whispering?

—It’s 2 a.m., and I don’t want to wake Pete.

—It’s 3 a.m. here.

—So why are you calling?

—I couldn’t sleep, I just wanted to hear your voice…

—hhhh…

—even that sigh, your breath. Every breath you take.

—Stop it, you can’t keep calling me.

And every move you make.

—What’s wrong with you? You’re acting so… high school.

Oh, can’t you see you belong to me…

—Stop singing, or I’ll hang up.

—But you like that song.

—It’s a creepy, stalker song.

Never gonna give you up, Never gonna let you down

—Oh my god. Creepier, stalkier. Stop.

Never gonna run around and desert you

—If you don’t stop calling, you’re stalking. Stop or I’ll block you.

—But if I don’t try, I’ll never get you back.

—If you don’t let go, you’ll never have a chance.

—So there’s a chance?

—I didn’t say that, but if you don’t let go and leave me alone, there will definitely never be a chance.

—So, there’s a chance… Never gonna say goodbye…

—You have to, or I’ll… I’ll throw out your letter jacket and class ring.

—You wouldn’t do that.

—Watch me.

I’ll be watching you…
